An eye pressure measurement is a simple but important test to check the health of your eyes. At Ponsioen Optiek, we measure eye pressure using a Non-Contact Tonometer. The measurement is quick and painless and is performed without the instrument touching your eye.
Measuring your eye pressure is important because elevated eye pressure can be a risk factor for glaucoma. Glaucoma is a condition in which the optic nerve can become damaged, potentially leading to loss of visual field. The challenging aspect of glaucoma is that it often causes no noticeable symptoms for a long time. Regular eye pressure checks can therefore help identify potential abnormalities at an early stage.
In addition to measuring eye pressure, we also examine the anterior segment of the eye (V.O.K.). We assess, among other things, the cornea, anterior chamber and anterior chamber angle. The anterior chamber angle is an important part of the eye and plays a role in the drainage of aqueous humour and therefore in regulating eye pressure. By paying attention to this area as well, we can gain a more complete picture of your eye health.

We recommend having your eye pressure and overall eye health checked regularly from the age of 40. Regular checks can be particularly important if glaucoma runs in your family.
Costs
The cost of an eye pressure measurement and anterior segment check is €15.
